I have had to re-install Win 2000 as I was having problem with Zone alarm and
couldn't connect to the internet.  This problem has gone but I sometimes need
to use my dial-up system and this has now stooped.  Win 2K says that I
haven't got a modem connected but I have and it an internal one.  Has the
re-install affected the modem and how do I re-configure it?

Go to "Control Panel", "Add/Remove Hardware" and troubleshoot or
reinstall the modem.  If this doesn't help or can't be done, please repost
with more information, including the manufacturer and model of the
modem.

I did as you suggested but the modem is not being detected by the OS.  I have
removed the modem and the only details I can see on it are as follow:
PCI Modem V.92 WW5.4C
PIBZ 033N1137

If it is a driver that is required then which one do I install?

Many thanks in adavance

Click on Start | Run  and enter  msinfo32 .  Look in Components\Problem
Devices,  do you see the modem there and do you see its PCI\VEN  number?

I found the driver for my modem and installed it on my system.  I re-started
my computer to complete the installation and during re-start an error message
on a blue screen was displayed.  STOP: 0x0000000A,  IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Ntoskrnl.exe

I restarted in the safe mode and unistalled the driver but on restart the
error message still appeared.

Any suggestions on a fix?

As mentioned by another poster, try using "Last known good configuration".
Also, see if this is helpful.
