For backing up my data files, I see lots of 3rd party software to do backups.

Is there anything wrong with the backup program that I see up under System Tools that
comes with Windows 2000? Can anyone tell me if there are any limitations about this
program?

The backup works just fine.  And you will be able to easily recover a
lost file, but don't expect it to recover the boot partition.   You
need something like Ghost, Acronis or Partition Magic to do that. You
could create a Nero project to do regular file backups to DVDs.
Backups need to be automated, periodic and easy.

The native backup program, ntbackup.exe, works fine
but it's not not world's most intuitive program. I recommend
you try it for yourself and remember that all backup programs
are useless unless ***you perform a full test recovery***
immediately after setting it up and then again twice each
year.

Win2k backup is not the greatest app in the world,,,
why not just burn your data directly to DVD's?
that way no software of any type will be needed to retrieve your data
