Accessing Through NewsreaderApril 5, 2005
Does anybody know how to access these newsgroups through a newsreader? I would prefer to use Outlook Express. If you know the name of the news server and any other configuration settings I need, I would Greatly appreciate it! A speedy response would be even more appreciated! Thanks! Joseph MCAD Hmmmm ... I wonder what the letters MCAD stand for.

MCAD stands for: Microsoft Certified Application Developer. I am also a MCP: Microsoft Certified Professional. I am certified in Developing Windows Based Applications, Web Based Applications, XML Web Services, .Net Remoting, Serviced Components, ADO.Net, Windows Services, and Implementing Security For Applications. You can find more about the MCP program at: microsoft.com/learning/mcp Anybody can be an MCP if they pass one exam. MCAD requires three exams. You can view a MCP's transcript showing the exams they passed at a certain Microsoft web site. The url is: https://partnering.one.microsoft.com/authenticate/validatemcp.aspx Transcript ID# 680903 Access Code = j3B98fU31g0W1cY Let me know if you have problems accessing the site. Keep in mind that the security exam (my fourth exam) will not show up for a few days, as I just took it today. I scored 934, which is Much better than anybody would dream of getting in security. The minimum passing score for all MCP exams is 700. Microsoft does not state the maximum score. I only missed, (I'm spectulating as Microsoft does say how many questions you missed) from the looks of my exam report, 2 questions. Feel free to visit the sites. As an MCP, you get many benefits, which sometimes include invitations. I have even been invited to the Microsoft Redmond Campus for a meeting, although I could not attend due to scheduling difficulties. (Which I deeply regret.) If you decide to try to get certified, you can buy the Microsoft Press Training Kits. There is a training kit for each exam. Wish you luck! I can't help but be incredulous, that someone with such impressive credentials seems to be unable to carry out a simple search at the MSDN or Microsoft.com websites and find out that the newsgroupds server is msnews.microsoft.com. Okay. Okay. How it happened was that it didn't. I found two servers for these newgroups. msnews.microsoft. news.microsoft.com I can't connect and therefore I started this thread to ask the name to make sure I had it right. Also, I would like suggestions on this connectivity problem and to ask if anybody else has this issue. Oh and by the way... Did I mention that I am a beta tester for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4? Also did you visit my transcript? Also do you have any suggestions about connectivity issues? :-) Joseph MCAD Show quoteHide quote "Stephany Young" wrote: > That's what I thought. > > I can't help but be incredulous, that someone with such impressive > credentials seems to be unable to carry out a simple search at the MSDN or > Microsoft.com websites and find out that the newsgroupds server is > msnews.microsoft.com. > > "Joseph MCAD" <JosephM***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:D9EB9A72-FA60-4F1D-B856-6179FD5DFDA4@microsoft.com... > > > > April 5, 2005 > > > > MCAD stands for: Microsoft Certified Application Developer. Thanks for the information. I am having problem accessing them however. I have everything correct, but when it goes to download the newsgroups, I get the following error while it is "Connecting": Account: news.microsoft.com Server: news.microsoft.com Protocol: NNTP Port: 119 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 800ccc0e This happens with other Microsoft newsgroup servers too. I haven't tried it on non-Microsoft news servers though. I have checked to the routers and Internet Connection Firewall and NNTP is enabled. Do you have any ideas? Thanks very kindly! If I understand your post correctly, there is an Earthlink news server that provides indirect access to these newsgroups. If so, I would be most appreciative if you gave the name and connection details. Thanks! Probably most of us, even Herfried again, are using Outlook Express. This newsgroup should be easy be to use directly on the microsoft servers as a lot of us do, by clicking this link. news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb or news://news.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb Outlook Express should open than and start loading the messages in this newsgroup. When that does not work you have a probably a firewall problem and have to contact your system.administrator or change that yourself.. Mostly the non Microsoft News Servers have a time delay, what is not nice to use or a low retention time (the time a message stays on a server). That is with Microsoft for this newsgroup exactly two months. For Google it seems endless. (To long retention time is as well not nice because that give long loading time in a newsreader the first time especially with a dialup connection) I hope this helps, Cor Its so much easier to use Outlook Express in the newsgroups, especially when
you can add small projects for people to download instead of putting it all in a scrappy post Crouchie1998 BA (HONS) MCP MCSE I have been using Google groups and have not looked back. I used to
use Outlook and it was ok, but Google makes it so easy to search the groups, it's easy to follow threads and I get notification when someone responds to one of my posts. I can't think of anything that Outlook gives you that Google Groups doesn't, but that's just my opinion, of course. April 5, 2005
There is no firewall on the computer (besides ICF which is fine), even though I know that it would be a fabulous idea to get one. The only other firewall besides ICF is in my router which has a clear setting on whether to allow newsgroup traffic which is on. I appreciate everybody's time and effort and I am still open to ideas! computer's date and time to the future so their posts stay at the top of the list. Google always uses the time the post was submitted.
