Visual Basic 2003 won't run - get error message

Hi.  When I try to run Visual Studio 2003 I get the message "MS development
environment is not installed for the current user. Please run setup to
install the application."

Is there any way to work around this without reinstalling VS 2003?

Also, can VS 2003 and VS 2005 coexist?

Carol,

Probably there is, but that willl be needed that you go into the registry,
something I won't advice you for these things.

For the second question is my answer the same as Herfried, this is obvious
because most people are not working direct in VS2005 but have also to
maintain projects in VS2003.

Yeah, I found an article in Microsoft's Knowledge Base that involved updating
the registry, but it pertained to VS 2002.  If solving the problem just
involves changing one line in the Registry, I'd appreciate the solution.

Carol,

Have you tried to Repair the VS 2003 installation.

Repair should be faster then doing a full reinstall.

As the others have pointed out you can have VS 2003 & VS 2005 both installed
on the same machine. In fact I have VS 6, VS 2002, VS 2003 and VS 2005 all
installed as my development platform.

I tried repairing Visual Basic 2003 and got the same result.  Used the Visual
Basic .NET setup from the Add/Remove programs window.

If I have both Visual Basic 2003 and Visual Basic 2005 installed, do I have
to uninstall VB 2005 first?

There's got to be a better way . . . . .

Carol,
As I stated I have multiple version of VS on multiple machines; I normally
install from oldest to newest (VB6 first, then VS 2002, then VS 2003,
finally VS 2005).

Did you install VS 2005 first followed by VS 2003? You may need to
un-install them both; then install VS2003 first followed by VS2005.

Are you running as administrator or as a normal user?

What OS? Are you current on SP for the OS?

Otherwise about all I can suggest is to call MS PSS.
