| I was using zone alarm free fire wall and could never get outlook express
to
| send or receive emails.

| When I disabled it, emails could be sent and received ok.
|
| So after giving up trying to configure it to work, I uninstalled it and
| downloaded the free kerio firewall to try. emails came and went fine - BUT
I
| lost the ability to ftp.
|
| Using Dreamweaver the connection to the server just times out.
|
| I have since uninstalled the Kerio firewall but still no ftp.
|
| I have installed norton security suite (av / as / firewall) and run a full
| scan. It detected a Trojan (mailer.dll) which is now quarantined.
|
| But still no ftp - so I assume that something within windows has been
| changed via one of the firewall install / uninstall routines.
|
| anyone have any ideas where to start looking.
