I have been running Win2K Server for 5 years, and have recently begun
experiencing occasional blue screen lockups with the message: STOP:
0x00000076 (*) PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES.  At that point, the system begins
dumping physical memory to disk.

This occurs randomly when I am performing the most mundane tasks, like
typing a new search string in Encarta2005, clicking on a go-to icon, or just
exiting Outlook2002 (using File/Exit).  A trip to the MSKB led to the
discovery that Microsoft admits that this is a problem with Win2K and Server
(among others), and has issued a Hotfix to correct it.  To obtain the Hotfix,
the KB page directs me to paid technical support.

So as I understand it, Microsoft has created a problem, but wants me to pay
for the solution.  Is there any way to obtain this Hotfix for free?  Can any
MVP's suggest another way to resolve this problem?  Also, does anyone know
where on the HDD I should look for the memory dump to delete the files?

Call and say you want the hotfix, and only the hotfix, that's free. If
you start going on about something else, it's going to cost you.

Hotfixes are always free.

By default in the %systemroot% (\winnt) directory.
