A friend has a problem.
On bootup he gets this message:
Inaccessible boot device....

It also suggests running checkdisk and
checking for viruses...no help with this - he cannot get
into Windows.

He has tried safe mode and booting from the Windows 2000 proff
CD...same message.

OS is
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

What can he do?
Any help or advice appreciated.

Thankyou for your prompt reply.
Re:

According to my friend no programs or new hardware have been installed.
Part of the message was
"Check your hard drive to see if it was properly configured and terminated"
Any ideas?

The "Inaccessible boot device" message is usually generated after
some hardware change, e.g. when a hard disk is ported from one
PC to another. Since you think that this was not the case, the cause
is anyone's guess and the problem can be quite difficult to resolve.

You could try booting into the recovery console, then renaming
the registry file "system" to "system.bad", then "system.alt" to
"system".

try disconnecting the single scsi drive, connect new IDE
drive and configure and make sure all is booting OK,
reconnect scsi drive.

Or try first re seat of all scsi cables and card

Are you sure the scsi drive is not the boot drive ?
