Yesterday I return from work, the computer is running slow, appears to be
related to slow internet connection.  (pages take a while, email is slow).
I reboot, and now do I have problems.

1.  No add/remove program icons at all.  At the top of that window, it says
in text  add/remove.......  I'm at work and cannot recall all of it.  No
icons.
2.  When I boot, it takes forever.  I end up with an error, looks like its
related to an HP device.  " RegisterClassObject failed:  LRES=0x800706b5"
The top of that window it says  HP Ai0 Device Object Server
3.  Once I hit ok, and get to the desktop, click on IE takes forever to IE
to open.
4.  Opening OE is quick, however no retrieval of emails occurs and it locks
up.
5.  A couple other programs won't open, some weird message, not the usual
cannot find program.   there is a number with a negative  -xxxxxxxxx
6.  Event log:

Service Control Manager  ID 7001         (It will not let me view properties
for more info on these)
Server                              ID 7022
Windows File Protection  ID 64016
MS Installer                     1015
Event System                    4097

I ran a couple of dll registries related to trying to get the add/remove
programs fixed.  No go
I ran a couple other repairs to see if there were missing DLL's,  nothing
changed.
I was going to remove all HP software programs for camera, printer, but with
no add/remove panel..............

Ran Spybot, Adaware, updated Spyware Blaster.  Spybot found a couple
homepage hijackers and cleared it out.   (Normally it finds nothing, but I
had unchecked the stop pages auto, to be able to get to a particular page it
had blocked)

Have Linksys router, and run zone alarm.
Task manager has 99% used on SystemIdle

This is part of a home network.  Did not shutdown the other pcs and roboot
just mine.

Did you try running  sfc /SCANNOW in a command window to check/repair all
system files?  This might be a good thing to try.  P.S. You'll need your
operating system CD for this.

After many hours googling the various error messages, symptoms etc. and
repairing win2k, re-installing things like vb6.  I somehow came to the idea
of uninstalling my wireless card.   I did so, rebooted, got it working and
everything else resolved itself.

Couldnt drag and drop files, copy and paste, windows installer wasn't
working, couldn't get to windows update  (since repair, I had a lot of
updates to REDO, that the auto checker found once it was all resolved).

I thought my windows was blown up for some reason, bits and pieces were not
working.   Apparently just the card.  who'd have figured?
