USB Modem|Mouse conflicts-no mouse right click anymore. Help!Installed a new Diamond USB Hardware modem on COM 4 and now my mouse(PS/2
w/adapter) will no longer right-click. No driver needed for install but I think W2KPro installed an *.inf file from the WINNT/system32 folder. Tried modem on COM 5 and changing Interrupt from 4 to 3 and it didn't help. Installing Intellimouse was no fix either. Possible IRQ or COM conflicts? I am lost so if anyone can reply with a possible fix I appreciate. Running IE6. TIA! 58Toyopet "Crouchie1998" <crouchie1***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message Daft question but have you tried another mouse ?news:e1Yq53hNFHA.1528@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... > What do the settings for the mouse & modem say in Device Manager? > > Jud "Jud" <j**@myhouse.com> wrote in news:fiZ2e.306$_M1.30@newsfe2- win.ntli.net:> Not daft but smart question. Probably because it was an older USB mouse. Thanks for any further thoughts you may have. :-D 58Toyopet "Crouchie1998" <crouchie1***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in Device Manager Settings: Modem Propertiesnews:e1Yq53hNFHA.1528@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl: > What do the settings for the mouse & modem say in Device Manager? > > General Tab: SM56USBSL V.92 Modem #2 Device type: Modems Manufacturer: DIAMOND Location: USB Device Device Status: This device is working properly Device usage: Use this device (enable) _________________________________________________________________________ Modem Tab: Port: COM5 Speaker volume: Off Maximum Port Speed: 460800 Dial Control: Wait for dial tone before dialing(checked) _________________________________________________________________________ Diagnostics Tab: Modem Information: Field: Hardware ID Value: USB\Vid_0483&Pid_7554&Rev_0200 Command: (empty) Response: (empty) Logging: (unchecked) _________________________________________________________________________ Advanced Tab: Extra Settings: Extra initialization commands: (empty) Advanced Port Settings: Use FIFO buffers(checked) Receive Buffer: High (14) Transmit Buffer: High (16) COM Port Number: COM5 _________________________________________________________________________ Driver Tab: SM56USBSL V.92 USB Modem #2 Driver Provider: DIAMOND Driver Date: Not available Driver Version: 3.20.4.384 Digital Signer: Not digitally signed _________________________________________________________________________ Power Management Tab: SM56USBSL V.92 USB Modem #2 Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby: (checked) _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ Device Manager Settings: Mouse Properties General Tab: Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (Intellipoint) Device type: Mice and other pointing devices Manufacturer: Microsoft Location: on PCI bus Device status: This device is working properly _________________________________________________________________________ Advanced Settings Tab: Sample Rate: 60 reports / second Wheel Detection: Assume wheel is present Input Buffer Length: 100 packets Fast Initialization: (checked) _________________________________________________________________________ Driver Tab: Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (Intellipoint) Driver Provider: Microsoft Driver Date: 03-Jun-04 Driver Version: 5.20.413.0 Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publi -sher ___________________________________________________________________________ Resources Tab: Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (Intellipoint) Resource settings: Resource type: Interrupt Request Setting: 12 Conflicting device list: No conflicts ___________________________________________________________________________ Power Management Tab: Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (Intellipoint) Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby: (unchecked) ___________________________________________________________________________ Thanks for helping out as I will be monitoring this thread for your ongoing support. :-D 58Toyopet have you tried deleting the mouse from the hardware list and
allowing OS to find it again ? If you remove the modem is the problem with the mouse resolved ? Later, removed modem(uninstall) & removed driver. After reboot, with no modem or driver on system(hardware or software), same trouble. I don't know if by installing the new modem some settings were changed in the IRQ or port settings or maybe even in the registry but nothing we've tried so far seems to be working. Note: I've tried to reverse the mouse buttons in the mouse settings(right- handed vs. left-handed). The physical right button then works but brings up only the menus normally associated with a left-click. Hence, both buttons on mouse are working but the context menu and anything else normally associated with the right button is disabled. Please keep this thread going folks as I am VERY grateful to all who can offer their advice or thoughts. TIA! 58Toyopet Update on the mouse problem:
Fiddled around with settings in Intellipoint and manually reset everything to factory defaults with exception of setting both left buttons and both right buttons on Trackball Explorer to click and right-click respectively. (I have a Logitech Marble Mouse with only two buttons). Somewhere in the duplication it must have enabled whatever was previously disabled. Everything is back to normal now and the mouse is working fine. Thanks to all who offered their advice and support as it was greatly appreciated during my time of frustration. 58Toyopet
