MAC and SMB or AFP

Hello,

We are having an interesting problem with MAC's connecting to a Server 2003
fileserver. The users are not able to save directly to the Server they get a
Disk is Full error. But if they save it to their MAC they can then move the
file over to the Server. The Server has Print and Files Services for Apple
installed and the share they are trying to get to I setup as a MAC share.
The only thing I didn't do is under Computer Management do a File Server for
Macintoch Properties, everything is the default there? They are able to save
with AFP but obviously they can't open files that were put there via SMB.
Please help!

Hi Jeremey!

Are the files that your Mac users are trying to save to the server the
same type of file (all Word, all Excel, all Photoshop)? And are they
being saved with or without file extensions (.doc, .xls, .psd)?

Are you running antivirus on your Macs? If so, try disabling it
temporarily to see if this is the cause.

Actually they are trying to save over an existing file example would be quark
file that then gives them a disk full error. We tested with and without AV.

Are your Macs using Mac OS 9 (or earlier) or Mac OS X? I'm going to
guess Mac OS X and that your problem may be related to permissions
between the Mac OS system and the server.

First make sure your Macs are up-to-date with the latest software
updates (Mac OS X 10.3.x is far better than Mac OS X 10.2.x and earlier)
and the same goes with your server. Then if the problem persists try
connecting as a different user that has more privileges on the server.
As an administrator, if possible, see if you have this problem logging
in from the Mac.

If you feel the problem may be on the server side, try creating a new
Mac volume for testing and see if you have the same problem with it.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
