HELP -Need instructions on running Service Pack from cmd prmpt

Hello,
I have a Windows 2000 Server w/SP3 that is displaying the "THE LOGON USER
INTERFACE DLL Msgina.dll FAILED TO LOAD" message after system boot up.
I followed the instructions in KB 329316 and renamed the old Msgina.dll and
replaced it with a copy from another working Windows Server (This was
accomplished while running the recovery console). However, the problems
remains unchanged.
KB 329316 mentioned that the Msgina.dll was fixed in SP4, so I'd like to
install the Service Pack. I can telnet into the server (I can can do most any
network management function - I just can not log on from the console. And
no,Terminal Service is not installed). I want to run SP4 from the command in
the hopes that this will repair the console logon.
Can any one provide me the command instruction to install SP4 or direct to a
resource that will?

Update.exe is the file used to install the extracted service pack. I don't
have an extracted service pack folder to look at, but I believe it's in a
folder named Update. There are some switches that you may want to run with
the command. I think Update /? will provide a list. If it doesn't reply to
this post and I'll research and find them for you.

Regarding the logon problem, have you tried to boot using Last Known Good?
What happened prior to the problem occurring? Problems with a Temp directory
can cause this such as it being encrypted.

Kevin,

Thank you for your response.
Yes, I've tried Last Known Good Boot as well as booting in safe mode, but
still receive the same error. I can however, still manage the computer
remotely using Manage Computer.
The last three tasks I performed before this horrible problem occured was:
1) Create a schedule for a script to using scheduler (the script runs as
scheduled)
2) Check the System log which showed that an error had occurred on the hard
disk
3) Run "chkdsk c: /F ", and because the drive was a NTFS partition,
rebooted the system

I'll give your suggestion on Update a try when I get into work Monday. I
tried running the service pack executable which extracted the files to a
directory with a hexadecimal number as a name and i386 underneath it. I found
a adminpak.msi file that was uncompressed, I don't remember seeing an update
directory - but then I wasn't looking for it. I'll post back with the results
Monday.
