Wins creating 1mb log filesHi,
I am having a really strange problem. I have a wins server which keeps generating 1mb log files. It does this until there is no more diskspace. It will flush the log files and start again. I have tried several things. Removed all replication partners, manually zeroed out the database, reinstalled service pack 4 and re-install wins. No errors real errors in the event viewer other than the one which get created when disk space gets low.... and the Wins.exe is running at 30% processor utilization which is abnormal. I am at my witts end. It's a windows 2000 server with service pack 4. Any help would be greatly appreciated. On Tue, 15 Feb 2005 08:07:03 -0800, ldesimone

I'm not sure exactly what the source of the problem was but think it was an XP client. This particular client (SP1) was showing high network traffic and its hostname was found in the WINS logs files repeatedly. Restarting the client and truncating the WINS logs (by performing an online WINS backup) resolved the issue. Kris Hi Kris,
Thanks for the info.... I ended up calling Microsoft Support yesterday Your right it was an Win XP client causing my problem but it was a little different. This client kept registering itself to WINS and basically flooding the wins directory with log files. It had a service called NetDDE (Network Dynamic Data Exchange) enabled. We don't use it here and I am not sure how it got enabled. Once, I disabled it off the client my problems was resloved. Thanks Again, Laura Show quoteHide quote "Kris Shaw" wrote: > On Tue, 15 Feb 2005 08:07:03 -0800, ldesimone > <ldesim***@discussions.microsoft.com> said to us: > > >Hi, > >I am having a really strange problem.
