I am using a PC with Win2000 SP4 and in the process of trying to get my
broadband router to work I have caused a problem that has locked me out of
the PC.  I am asked for a password to logon to windows although I have not
set one.  Can anyone help me get back into my machine as I am desperate to
sort this problem out.

I have a similar problem.

I am using a PC with Win2000 SP4 and I have caused a problem that has locked
me out of
the PC. I seem to have acrtivated a RAS setting, that requires me to login
with a dialup connection, in order for my password to be accepted. This is a
home computer, and there is no network as such. I have broadband. How can I
bypass, to change the setting?

Oh no! There is no  remote network that I am aware of. So far as I can tell,
the network is the 'domain' of the computer. Which is a domain of one.

I don't have an ERD. (*smacks head repeatedly*)

The computer is not on a LAN. I don't think that remotely editing the
registry is a possibility...

Ok. I should try to get a bootable disk and edit the registry key. Does it
matter that my hard drive is formatted FAT32?

I am also going to call my broadband company. Maybe they can do the remote
edit.

It doesn't matter that the file system is FAT32.  You can mount the disk
in another Windows 2000/XP computer or put it in a USB enclosure to edit
the registry.

My BIOS also has an option to boot from PXE, which seems to be from the
ethernet card directly. I am not sure how that would work...

No, that won't help you at all.  Boot from PXE makes the Network
Interface Card bootable, the boot information comes from a network
location.  As opposed to the floppy drive, the CD drive, or the hard drive.

(: No, I meant, since it is FAT32, maybe I do not even need a win2000
bootable or live disk. Maybe I can open DOS and edit the registry through
there?

Opening the machine and removing the hard disk may be unneccessary major
surgery. I can probably find a bootable disk.

You know I made a win2000 installation disk some time ago. Thing is, for
some reason, the disk is not bootable in my computer.  (Although other
installation disks are, and this disk is bootable in other computers.)

No.  You need a registry tool that can properly interpret the Windows NT
registry.  As far as I know there are few if any DOS or Windows 98
applications that can properly read Windows NT registry files.  I think
that Resplendence software had a Windows 98 version that could edit the
Windows NT registry.  The easiest way is with another Windows 2000/XP
installation.  (I don't think I have ever been able to load a Windows
2000 hive with Windows NT 4.0)  Otherwise use a PE disk or a Linux
registry editor.  PE disks are preferable, Linux editors can be a bit
complicated...
