Laptop: Java, Standby mode

Several days ago, I installed Java from Sun on my recently updated
Windows 2000 (mostly security updates).  Now the machine doesn't go
into standby.  Do you normally rely on automatic switch to standby
after a period of inactivity?  If you have done so, have you found
that Java prevents this?  This is just a speculative survey right now
to see if there's a correlation.

Thanks.

In case it matters, I'm using a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop.

Hi!

Just out of curiosity, I tried the same thing on my Latitude D800 with a
fully updated version of Windows 2000 Pro SP4 and the latest release of
Java.

I don't normally let the system go to standby on battery. Still, I changed
the setting, said OK to the Power Options control panel and waited. A little
over two minutes later, the system didn't go to standby.

For whatever it is worth, now you have a second data point.

I solved the problem by uninstalling Java.  There was only one
particular website I visited that adamantly required it.
