Wordpad lost Word 6 formatThe Wordpad program on this machine no longer gives the selection "Word
for Windows 6.0" as an option when saving files. The only ones it gives now are: - RTF - Text Document - Text Document - MSDOS format - Unicode Text Document Don't know when it got lost, none of my other machines are like this. Any advice on getting it back? That's all I have as well on Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 2003
server / Windows 2008 server. Must be something you installed. -- Show quoteHide quoteRegards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. > That's all I have as well on Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 2003 You mean you *don't* have the Word 6.0 option on those machines either?> server / Windows 2008 server. Must be something you installed. I did some more checking: On all my other machines (which *do* offer the Word6 selection), the Wordpad.exe filesize is 182 KB and the file date is 10/20/2004. On this machine, the filesize is 184 KB and the file date is 4/30/2008 So I went to my last backup (27 June 2009) for this machine and checked the copy there it was 182 KB and 10/20/2004. The most significant thing that's happened since then on this machine (but not all the others at this time) is that I ran Windows Update. So my guess is that Windows Update has changed this program particularly if your (up to date, I'm sure) machines have the later file. Either that, or the file has been compromised on this machine (it scans OK). Could you check the file sizes and dates on your machine please, Dave? I can also check this theory by updating the other machines of course. XP = 4/21/2008 211k
2003 = 4/29/2008 212k Vista = 1/20/2008 330k 2008 = 1/19/2008 330k If you have the backup why not copy the old file back? -- Show quoteHide quoteRegards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. That being so, it might be taking a risk to simply replace the new file with the old one. Looks like that's it. Might be time to convert those old files.
